  1. Simple, Robust, Effective

Posted by Jeridan Dyck on 28th May 2014

I recently took this item on an overnight excursion. With char cloth and marginally dry cottonwood bark, i started all three of the fires I needed. In three or four strikes the char would catch, steel sparks great and fits comfortably in the hand. Flint is good sized plenty of sharp edges. For a primitive means of starting fire this one is simple and very easy to use provided one knows the basics.

  2. This one will stay with me every day.

Posted by Robert Lewter on 15th Apr 2014

I got the Pathfinder flint and steel set on Thursday. Straight out of the box, I used the included lamp wick, three strikes and I had an ember. Friday I went to the woods and stayed till Sunday afternoon, starting all my fires but one with the set. I used char wood, char cloth, and cedar bark. The striker works really well with the native flint we have in our limestone. So, that said, the thing I like best about it is, by it giving me the flexibility to use the things in the wild, it's infinitely sustainable. And that's the truth!

  3. Good product works good

Good product. Works good. Would be better if it was c shaped for younger hands to grip it.

  4. Great gift!

Posted by Erik Nenzen on 21st Mar 2014

I just received this in the mail today. I immediately tried it and can throw sparks like crazy. Although I cannot get the wick to light, I spent a whole day making charcloth and that works great! I would totally recommend this and give this to any outdoorsman.

  5. Fantastic!

Easy to use, able to light the lamp wick very quickly. Fits in an Altoid can, bag & all.

  6. A great deal, a great spark!

Posted by JKing on 23rd Dec 2013

Gave this as a gift to my friend, but tested it out first. Steel and flint created a great spark, igniting the charred wick on first attempt. I would rely upon this for fire in a survival situation or for recreational use. The object is to be prepared, and this can provide one more means to survive. This could equal the difference between life and death. This is a definite necessity, in my opinion, in an outdoor kit. I like to have 3, 4, 5 different ways to create fire in a kit. Don't forget the $2 Bic lighter... Feel confident in this old school addition.

  7. My first f&s set

Posted by M. Crumley on 17th Sep 2013

I had never used or owned a f&s set before this one. Ferro rods were always my choice. I saw this one on the site and thought that I would give it a try. As soon as it arrived, I took it out and tried it. Being my first time, and with some practice I got the wick to catch spark and lit my tender with ease. I'm proud to say this little gem is in my EDC now. For a person with no experience with one it worked great. I would recommend it.

  8. Good Flint and Steel

Posted by Kevin on 8th Aug 2013

I was on the fence about getting this one or the more expensive one. I am happy with this F&S although, for those that have not practiced with one yet, it is far harder than a fire steel. I wish the flit was a little bigger but for the money this can't be beat (unless of course you live in a area where flint can be found).

  9. it works

Posted by John Gandy on 30th Jul 2013

What can you say? It has a nice sized piece of flint and the steel throws an incredible amount of sparks. You will have to light a LOT of fires to wear this thing out.

  10. Basic

Posted by Unknown on 19th Jul 2013

The striker is what you expect from a extremely basic steel, the flint was garbage and basically unusable. Lamp wick works as expected. Good budget choice as long as you have flint in your area.
