Pure & Simple Wool Blanket - Carmel Color featuring the Pathfinder LOGO

The long-standing tradition of wool processing at Faribault Woolen Mill is alive and well in our cherished carmel Pure & Simple wool blanket. While we take pride in the interesting patterns we create, we know nothing is more elegant than stunning colors and softness on a wool blanket.

We use a medium grade blend of wool for this “workhorse”, which makes it surprisingly soft but easy to use. It is machine washable and dryer ready, so you can get back to using it the way you want.

What's So Great About Wool?

WOOL IS WATER RESISTANT.

The quality that distinguishes wool fibers from hair or fur is the presence of a hard, water-repellent outer layer that surrounds each hollow fiber, overlapping like shingles on a roof. The fiber's core absorbs up to 30% of its weight in moisture vapor without becoming damp or clammy, while the hard outer layer protects against outside liquid moisture. Water is repelled, but humidity is absorbed, and that helps with thermal regulation.

WOOL IS MOISTURE WICKING.

Besides keeping outside moisture away from the skin, wool also wicks away perspiration. When you sweat, that sweat cools your skin-which is not what you want when it's cold outside. Wool fibers absorb perspiration and wick it away from your body, thus keeping you warm and dry.

WOOL IS A WONDERFUL INSULATOR.

The crimp of the wool produces insulating air spaces that retain body heat. These warm air pockets next to the skin are kept dry while the hollow wool fibers absorb moisture vapors and the hard outer surface moves liquid moisture away from the body.

WOOL REGULATES TEMPERATURE AND IS BREATHABLE.

Wool has a very wide comfort range, essential for adapting to changing weather conditions. This unique property makes wool the perfect fiber to be used in the production of outerwear, because it has the versatile ability to warm in colder conditions and cool in warmer conditions.

WOOL BLENDS WELL.

Wool can be blended with many different natural and synthetic fibers to create a multitude of fabric options.

  4. confused about wool blankets? dont be this one is great! this is why

I have been testing three blankets this winter. HB white with pink stripe $245 on eBay. Pendleton national park series $185 on sale local shop. And this Faribault mills blanket. Queen size for all. I am not including military surplus because they just are not as nice as these three, however in the woods I do like my $40 wool. All three are made here in US. The market is flooded with different blankets and unless you can feel and see all of them they really are hard to compare. Loft, weave, weight all these terms add up to different kinds of blankets. I was looking for everyday home and camping blankets. The HB is very lofty and heavy. A perfect bed wool blanket to be passed on for ever. However there is no way I would pay $400 for a queen, the white and pink stripes can be found for a bargain and sooooo worth it if you don't care about the pink. I would not take it into the woods just to nice. The Pendleton is really well made and is really suited for both outdoors and indoors. The national park series to me was the best of softness and durability. It really will take a beating. It feels like a middle to heavy weight yet warms like a heavy. The Faribault Mills that is sold here is the pure and simple model. Not the heaviest more the lightest by far. The craftmenship is beautiful. The edges have a nice sewn wrap and the weave is different than the others. It is tight but with a loft for softness. Tighter weave than both the others so durability should be great outdoors. Warmth should be on par with the Pendleton. Now the biggest factor is price. $175 is a great deal for this quality. None of these blankets are throwaways these will last a very long time. If I had to do it all over I would go Faribault first then Pendleton then HB if I was paying full retail. If the Pendleton was ever found $175 I would go there first, I like the tribute to the national parks. You will never find a 6 point HB new for $175 so don't even try. Do what I did and buy all three or more and keep supporting made in the USA!

  5. Toast

This blanket is the by far the best i have ever owned. It is so warm and toasty.

  6. Perfect!

Posted by Mike F on 21st Dec 2013

I ordered this blanket as I wanted a larger size and also a 100% wool blanket. It came yesterday and we spread it over a queen sized bed. It is more than ample in size. It is about three feet wider than the mattress and has plenty of room to tuck it in. Being all wool, you probably would not use this against your face as it is a little "scratchy", but it definitely is a well made and warm blanket. I had compared wool blankets on "name brand" sites and this was much more reasonable in price.
As my wife did not know this was coming and I have multiple, potential uses for it, I thought it was best to present it to her as a Christmas gift for the bed. So far, so good!
I am very happy with it.

  7. 100% Wool Blanket

Love this blanket. I have looked for 100% wool at a good price for sometime. It is a very well made quality blanket.

  8. Excellent Wool Blanket

Posted by Joe on 4th Dec 2013

First let me say that I was leery of purchasing a wool blanket because most of anything wool I have every owned was itchy.

However, Dave himself assured that was not the case for these blankets. So before heading out I decided to test it at home, and let me say not only am I staying warmer, but not itchy feeling from the blanket.

I can not wait to get some dirt time with this in my kit, as I look forward to staying nice and warm.

Well worth the cost to own such a high quality item.

  9. Smoothing It

Posted by Bodie on 26th Nov 2013

Tested out the 100% wool blanket this past weekend camping. Lowest temperature was 28 degrees Fahrenheit. Used thin tarp for ground cloth on 1 inch bed of leaves. Sleeping pad was a cheap rubber exercise mat. Used SOL Emergency Bivvy with the wool blanket slid inside. Suspended emergency space blanket sold on the Pathfinder store as shelter cover 20" from the ground. Clothing consisted of thin polyester base layers, polypropylene socks (new military surplus) with 100% wool socks bought on the Pathfinder store, 100% wool military sweater, and L.L. Bean fleece flannel shirt. Added 100% military wool glove liners, wool jeep cap and 100% wool military neck gaiter. Babies don't sleep this good! Wool blanket is not super thick, but extremely fine quality in my opinion. I've never had any issues with any of my gear purchased from the Pathfinder store. I believe Dave and crew attempt to honestly test and provide quality products. I would definitely recommend this wool blanket be added to your kit. Wool blanket weighs 5.5 lbs. Carried this sleep system in one of the Pathfinder's 30L dry bags minus the exercise mat. Strapped both to the top of my rucksack. Highly recommend this blanket before prices go up which happened with me. Wish I had bought it a few months ago when it was $150.00.
